Lotus Sport... Diesel

Et oui, non ce n'est pas PSA qui l'a fait [Image: icon_smile.gif]

The ECO2S hybrid can do 0 to 60mph in 6.2 seconds, despite having only a 1.2-litre diesel engine.

The car is built around a lightweight aluminium chassis, clothed in plastic bodywork. It weighs only 730 kilogrammes despite its normal size.

At 75g/km, the Lotus easily beats the CO2 emissions of almost all production cars and is over 400% 'greener' than some with similar performance.

ECO2S uses a 42-volt battery to power an electric motor while being used in urban areas, but switches to the hi-tech camless turbodiesel engine, with four valves per cylinder, when asked to produce more power.

It also features four-wheel-drive, an advanced gearbox allowing sequential shifts and a top speed of 125mph.

Striking artist impressions of the concept have been released, but the real car will be seen for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
